shutting pc down windows xp

please could some one help me out.every time i turn my pc off at the turn off
computer button in the start menu my pc takes about 10 min to display the
turn off menu and when it does eventualy show my pc takes another 10 min to
shut down.

Could be a virus or other malware infection. Scan your system for viruses,
worms, trojans and adware and spyware.

i have ran a scan for viruses and spyware and its all clear

I ran into the same problem recently when I upgraded the motherboard & ram in
my xp pro sp2 system (did a repair reinstall of xp, per Microsoft's
recommended procedure, to get the hal reloaded). Talked to Microsoft tech
support, who claimed it was the hardware that was incompatible (yeah, right).
I lived with it for a month or so, and after several rounds of Windows
updates, problem was gone. Can't say it will work in your case, but if you
haven't downloaded any windows updates in a while, do so from Internet
Explorer until no more updates are found and see if it cures the problem.

Go here to sort... mine turns off in about 15 secs now!!!
