shutting down xp home

I had win98 on my pc prev and it would shut down everytime right, meaning atx
power supply and the pc would shut off, but I have now formatted and
installed xp home and it wont shut off, brings the "you can shut off your pc
now" after I choose shut down. I want it to shut off, anything I can try
would be appreciated. Thanks

have you tried a virus scan? AVG is a free one and personally i think better
than mcaffe and norton
