shuting down problem

when I click the "shut down" button my computer restarts instead. It's been like this for a few weeks. Anyone familliar with this problem? I have windows XP home edition.

Click start, click control paner, click power options , click thr advance
tab, scroll down to power buttons and see what you have , should say
shutdown and standby.
