shutdown problems

I am having problems shuting down Vista 1. edition. Whatever could be
the cause of this nuisance? I have to push the reset button in the
middle of the shuting down process in order to get the computer to
respond. This results in black screen and Advanced Startup Options.
Opting for Normal Mode will start up Vista ok, but it is really
annoying to have to go via Advanced Options every time I am going to
boot up. Can somebody give me a suggestion of what to do. I would be
most grateful.

Hi,

It means an application is hanging or not repsonding to the terminate
signal. Prior to shutting down, open task manager and try killing a couple
of processes prior to initiating a shutdown. If you are able to shut down
normally, then you know that one of the processes you killed is the problem.
If not, then try again with some other ones until you locate the problem.
Then you can address the root cause.

Common causes include malware, auto-updating routines, and even antivirus
software. A full system scan in with updated antivirus and antispyware
programs from safe mode can help remove any of those possible causes.

Go to Control Panel > Performance > Advanced Tools..

There is a list at the top which will tell you what is causing the
problems..

Hello.

I send you an email as well

This tip applies to XP and Vista

Go to this page: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Scroll down to line 76 on the RIGHT column where it says:
Auto End Tasks to Enable a Proper Shutdown
Click on that link (not the undo part)
And download that .reg file and then double click it so you can merge it
with your registry. Do a restart. See if it improves stuff.

What does this do? It makes programs and services terminate faster in order
for the pc to shut down faster.

Do you want me to fix your computer to work faster and shut down faster than
ever before?
