Shutdown Problems

I'm having shutdown/restart problems. Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit. It
takes forever. The 1st couple of times it did this I manually powered off
the machine. But the last couple of times I waited and it finally retsarted.
Anyone have any ideas how to correct this or waht's going on? This started
when I had a bunch of programs opened. I started closing the open programs
and then tried to restart while they were still closing. This shouldn't have
made a difference. Thanks for any input.

Wow, you hit the nail on the head with this one. I completely understand
exactly why this was happening. Thanks for the excellent response. You
must be a Microsoft tekkie!
