Shut down takes to attempts

When I go to log off XP, I get the regular page -- STANDBY, TURN OFF, and
RESTART. If I click on Turn Off or Restart, it goes through the motions of
doing just that. Then after it appears to be doing what I told it to do, I
get the exact some page again, this time with the background turned grey.
But I have to tell it AGAIN to either shut down or restart. Why the
redundancy?

Because something isn't terminating properly the first time. See if the

Thanks for the info, but nothing there helped me. It still takes two
attempts to shut down XP. I don't know why.
