Phew - how lazy is that!
BTW, my boomerang won't come back. How can I get someone to go and fetch it
for me?
Happy Red Nose Day!

There are freeware utilities out there that shutdown, or hibernate the PC. I
have "Poweroff 3.0", "Winoff25" that I've used.

Currently, I have most of my PC's with "Poweroff 3.0" running as a service
programmed to hibernate the PC's at 9:30PM if no one is using them. I like
Poweroff as I can program a warning message warning me the PC will hibernate
that I can cancel if I'm working on it.

In the morning, I have the scheduler run a dumb batch file. To wake the PC
up, the schedules task would have to have the "setting tab" set to "wake the
PC up to run this task" checked. What this batch does is irrelevant. I got
mine type a message that says "this is the file that wakes up the computer.

The PC is awaken at 4:55AM to run backups, virus scans, automatic updates
etc. One PC is used as a server, and is kept on all day till 9:30PM, when it
hibernates. The others are hibernated again at 6:30AM if noboday is using it.

I do this as some PC's seem to hibernate OK with the appropriate power
settings, but others do not, and when I didn't do this most of the PC's were

Keep it simple: leave it on 24x7

Look in the BIOS for a AutoStart feature. Use Scheduled Tasks and
Shutdown.exe for the timed shutdown.

Binza,

There are many timed shutdown apps on the Internet that you could use, but
wake up is a little harder because the motherboard have things like wake up
on LAN or you can set them to wake up when the phone rings for the fax
service etc. Other than that, I have no idea.

The shutdown.exe tha Bob I mentioned is a utility that comes with XP but
there are some you can download for free too.

The autostart feature in the BIOS is restart after a crash I would think &
not a timed start

Sorry, I cannot be of anymore help,

FWIW, autostart settings for Dells made in the last couple years support
not only a daily timed start but whether or not to include weekends too.
