Shrink Properties

Hi All, I am looking for some help on shrinking & Printing. I have a
yearly callendar made on MS Excel which fits on a A4 sheet. I am trying
in vain to reduce the document to 55mm x 77mm but at the same time have
the 55mm x 77mm callendars across an A4 sheet. I can reduce the
document to print to this size by setting the properties to scale it to
32% of original size onto A4 sheet. This is perfect but how can i get
the same size callendar so that i will have say 9 per A4 rather than
printing 1 per A4 and wasting valuable paper.

My printer is an Epson Stylus PHOTO R300

Thanks in advance :)

Stuart,

You can adjust the margins and do 9 separate prints (i.e. put the paper
in again, 8 times with a new setting of the margins), or alternatively
copy the calendar block twice to the right, then copy this composite
block down twice (so you have 9 calendars) and adjust the print range
accordingly.

Hope this helps - I used to have the same type of printer.

Hi Pete_UK,

Thanks for your reply but please excuse my ignorance as i am still no
clear as to what you are describing about the margins. The actual siz
of the callendar is nearly A4 size and when i use shrink method to 32
it shrink to the size i want on a new A4 sheet at the top left corner
The margins i adjust are on the original A4 size ,but when i adjust th
margins for smaller boundries it cuts out most of my callendar as see
'HERE' (http://www.sam-grahame.co.uk/Original A4.JPG).

Can you please explain the procedure for the settings

Much Appreciated

I've tried your link, but it didn't take me anywhere.

Do File | Print Preview and you should see your reduced calendar in the
top corner. If your margins are not visible (dotted lines) then click
the Margins button while in Print Preview. You can drag the margins, so
if you do this to the left margin and drag it, say, 5cm to the right,
then your whole calendar should move. Similarly with the top margin.
The problem with this is that it is a bit hit-and-miss, and your second
(or subsequent) print could easily over-write your earlier ones. You
have better control if you select Set Up | Margins, where you can see
the values for the margins and can change them directly.

However, my second suggestion of copying the calendar so you have 9 of
them in one sheet is easier, and only involves one print out.

Just thought of a slightly quicker way of doing the first 4 prints:

Print your first one normally. Put the paper back in. For the second
print, do File | Print Preview then click Set up | Margins (tab) then
check the box for Centre Horizontally. Then print this out and put the
paper back in. Do File | Print Preview | Set Up | Margins again, and
this time check Centre Vertically. Print out again, and put the paper
in once more. This time uncheck Centre Horizontally and print out for
the fourth time. Put paper back in.

For the other 5 print outs you will need to uncheck Centre Vertically
and adjust the margins to suit.

Hope this helps.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your support on my printing problem. I managed to do as yo
suggested and works fine. I didn't know you could move data around b
moving the margins. You learn something new every day :) . I don't lik
the idea of putting the same paper in over and over and adjusting th
margins to move the callendar to be able to accomplish my objective a
i have had bad experiences with jammed paper and clogging of ink :( .
however perserviered and came up with a much more simpler way and too
seconds to change and print.

Firstly i kept the callendars original sizes (A4) then i copied th
whole callendar and made duplicate copies side by side until i had
massive 4x4 (16 in total) A4 callendars. Now normally if you print a
it is it would print x16 A4 Callendars, but then i highlighted th
whole cell range to cover all 16 callendars then selected File | Prin
Area | Set Print Area. I then i selected File | Page Setup and adjuste
the scalling to 30% of normal size.
When i then clicked on Print Prieview low and behold i had x16 minitur
callendars side by side on x1 A4 sheet of paper. PERFECT ;)

Thanks again for your support

Thanks for the feedback Stuart.

This was my preferred suggestion, rather than feed the paper back in 9
times.
