Showing Distinct Values on a Sheet

I would like to know if there is a short cut to show distinct values
in a given column. Here is an example of a column:

Fred
Joe
Lisa
Fred
Joe
Fred


I would like to be able to see
Fred
Joe
Lisa

The way I do it now is that I create a pivot table of that column
which gives me distinct values. Is there an easier way?

Advanced filter will give you unique or distinct values, should probably be
a few steps short of creating a pivot table
