How do I setup a slide so that a hidden object will appear if I move the
mouse over or click on another object?

Create the object that you want to click or mouse-over.

Select the hidden object that you want to animate.
Right Click > Custom Animation
Add the desire effect by clicking the Add Effect button
Now the animation event you just created will be represented in the Custom
Animation Task Pane.
Right click on the representation in the Task Pane
Select Timing > Triggers > Start effect on click of (then select the object
that you created for the mouse over)

Did that help.

Click on an object is fairly easy- set an entrance animation for the hidden
object (or an animation to remove whatever is hiding it) and then double
click on the animation and selecttiming > triggers>start effect on click of
"rectangle 3" or whatever

With a mouseover you will need to hyperlink to a slide which is a duplicate
except for the addittion of the hidden object

(Slide show>Action settings > mouseover)

I have several objects where I want to have a click action that makes
another object appear.

The problem is after the click on the 1st object, when I click on a second
object its related hidden object doesn't appear. Note all the hidden objects
are set into the same place

You can use trigger animations if a click is OK. Animate an entrance effect
for the "hidden" object and set the timing to be triggered on a click of
another object.

If your objects are in the same place, then you won't see the ones that
show up behind other objects. This might be more trouble than it is
worth, but you can set exit animations for all other objects and an
entrance animation for the one you want to show, all triggered by the
same object. This is pretty easy if you only have two or three, but it
can get very tedious if you have more than that. An alternative is to
have several duplicate slides with only the correct object showing so
your click goes to another slide instead of triggering an animation.

"Note all the hidden objects
are set into the same place"

So do you mean you want to click something object 1 appears - click
something else and object 1 disapears to be replaced by object 2?

As David says going to another slide with the animation on it (different
slide for each object" is probably he way to go.

One possible problem if you revisit one of these slides the animation wont
play again. Solution is to hyperlink to a blank slide one before the animated
slide and set a transition of zero seconds to this slide - this will rest the
animation on the following slide.
