show other slides between bulleted items?

Hello Group:

I'm a PP novice, but not a computer novice. Using PP 2003. I wonder if
it's possible to show additional material between bulleted items. For
example, if my presentation starts off with a slide
PETS
and bulleted items beneath the title
DOGS
CATS
BIRDS
If I set up custom animation to have each bullet item "appear" as the
entrance setting, then each appears in turn with the mouse click. But
if I want to show some material or pictures of dogs after the first
bulleted item, then go back to the original list, is it possible to do
this?
Or do I just make individual slides, each with increasing bulleted
items, and only set animation for the item not previously seen?

Many thanks.

Jack,

This is your lucky day. When you animate bullets, you get them all grouped
together in the animation task pane. There is a little drop down button hat
allows you to expand them all. So...

Animate, say, a picture to come in. Drag its animation setting into the
bulleted list animation area just below the one you want it to come in
after. Then you can animate it to go away via an exit animation, and drag it
below the entrance. The you will get, for example, bullet 1, bullet 2,
picture come in, picture go out, bullet 3.

Hope that makes sense. I only speak English of the Aussie kind ;-)

Hi Glen...
The Aussie seems clear to me. Hope you can understand my American,
slightly southern variety. We are indeed "separated by a common
language."
I appreciate very much your reply.
Per your note I don't use vba
The explanation seems fine, and it is indeed my lucky day to have
found the answer so quickly.
Unfortunately I don't have time to try it out now...Day job calls.
Will report back on results of your advice.
Again, thanks.

Glen. I hope you slept well. I'm having trouble following your
instructions. I set up a test slide just like my dogs, cats, birds
example. But in the custom animation pane, I don't find a dropdown
button to expand them.
Using Powerpoint 2003, SP1.
What am I missing?
Thanks for trying to help.

Jack, the visuals here might be just enough to help get you started:

http://www.echosvoice.com/individualbullets.htm#IndividualBulletedTextAnimation

Once you expand the contents of the bulleted text, you can drag and drop or
use the move buttons at the bottom of the animation task pane to reorder.

Many thanks. Great site. I wasn't seeing the "click to expand" but I
already had the three bullets expanded. So I believe I must now
interpolate additional animation between those original animations,
which show up on my slide numbered 1 through 3. I'll try it tonight.
Thanks again to you and Glen.

Jack,

You will notice I don't always spend enough time on other MVP PowerPoint
sites <g>. I knew Echo had a bunch of animation stuff but didn't know bout
this one!

Glen and Echo:
I am starting to work with your suggestions. I made the original
bulleted slide:
PETS (title bar)
DOGS
CATS
BIRDS
Each item is custom animated to "entrance" appear with mouse click,
but not to exit

Then I went back to and hit enter after bulleted item number 1...DOGS
Then tabbed to demote the interpolated heading. Here I inserted a
picture of a dog (Beowulf) and modified its custom animation to
"appear" and "fly out". this takes up two more animations, so now in
the custom animations pane, I have 5 animations:
1.DOGS
2.Beowulf (picture)
3.Beowulf (picture)
4.CATS
5.BIRDS
When I play the slide show and click each item, it seems to work!
Hooray!. But the slide in slide sorter view and normal view shows only
the picture, not the bulleted items. Seems peculiar.

Am I doing this right?
Many thanks again. I'll keep playing with it also.

Glen and Echo:
I'm finally getting the picture. I just didn't realize it really
doesn't matter where you put the picture or other added animation in
the slide for the sub-bullet addin, since you can move it around in
the custom animation pane. It took a few tries, but I think I've got
it now.
So, again, my sincere thanks. It's amazing how dumb these things can
make you feel!

Best regards.

Am I doing this right?

I would probably do this part
Then I went back to and hit enter after bulleted item number 1...DOGS
Then tabbed to demote the interpolated heading. Here I inserted a
picture of a dog (Beowulf) and modified its custom animation to

a little differently, but that's just a matter of personal preference and
because my presentations often have to work in PPT 2000 as well as
2002/2003. If it's working the way you want it to, then what you've done is
just fine.

Regarding
Hooray!. But the slide in slide sorter view and normal view shows only
the picture, not the bulleted items. Seems peculiar.

Hm. I thought this might be due to the "show formatting" icon (two As with a
diagonal line between them) being toggled to the off state, but I can't seem
to repro it here, so that's probably not the issue. That leads me to think
it's probably a video driver thing. So I'd first try lowering hardware
acceleration as described at http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00129.htm
and if that doesn't help, I'd update video drivers. You can usually find
video drivers on your computer mfg's website.

And hopefully someone else will have some ideas on this one.
Many thanks again. I'll keep playing with it also.

You're welcome, Jack. Holler back if you have more questions.

Great! The new custom animation task pane allows for so many variations, but
that also means it can be a bit tricky, especially at first. I'm glad you're
starting to work through it!

Nah. Dumb is not asking!
