show new font and color on screen?

I can't figure out how to show a new font and color on the screen before I
print. I go to "Format, font, choose font, but the screen stays the same.
What's wrong?

Possibly you're displaying the document in Draft view, which always
uses only one font (settable in Tools > Options > View > Draft font).
Use the View menu or the buttons in the bottom left of the window to
choose Print Layout view.

Sorry if this is too obvious, but you'd be surprised Are you selecting
any text before making the changes?
