hi! everybody knows that to see the extension of a file in winXP is very
uncomfortable.

i have just discover that we can change the tooltip information in the
registry editor, my question is, is there any way to show in the tooltips the
real extension of the file instead of the silly "program" type?

thanks!

"Uncomfortable"? Do you mean "difficult"?

No, it's neither uncomfortable nor difficult. In my Computer, simply
go to Tools | Folder Options, and on the "View" tab, uncheck the box
"Hide extensions for known file types.

yes, i mean uncomfortable:

(excluding mouse movements)
1 click -> tools
2 click -> folder options
3 click -> view tab
4 scroll wheel
5 click -> uncheck "hide extensions"
6 click -> Accept
SEE THE EXTENSION
7 click -> tools
8 click -> folder options
9 click -> view tab
10 scroll wheel
11 click -> check "hide extensions"
12 click -> Accept

i think that to do these 12 actions is easy, but too stupid just to see what
kind of file i am managing.

i use right click and "open with", which says you the extension, but 3
clicks are still too much for that.

thank you for the answer but, some helpful one?

Good. Stop there. Why would you want to change it back again? Just
leave it set like that.

You do the above only one time, then the extensions are always there
to see. Any discomfort is over after the two or three seconds to the
above, and there's no reason to put it back to the dumb default.

"Everybody" knows no such thing.

In fact, for security you should be looking at the extensions.

You've got it! That's the way to solicit help. Attack those who might
be willing to help you.

No thanks. I'm done. Find someone else to help you.
