Show a cell as drop-down even if cell not selected

Giri

Hi,

Let A1 be a list using Data --> Validation --> List -->
with 1,2,3 as values.

Therefore, whenever A1 is selected it indicates with a
small icon seemingly attached to the cell that a drop-down
exists.

Can we make a cell show that it contains a drop-down even
when the cell is not selected? If so, how? The solution
could be either through code or some external setting.
Note that i am using Windows 2000, Office 2000.

Thanking you in advance.

Regards,
Giri

Hi
there's no such option to automatically add an indicator. You may color
these cells with a different color

Giri,

This is not possible. The same question was asked a couple of days ago, and
my suggestion was to colour the cells to make them stand out.

Debra Dalgleish also suggested this option

You could insert a comment in each cell, and leave the comment indicator
visible. It appears as a red triangle at the top right of the cell, but
does not print.

Insert a comment in one cell (Insert>Comment)
Select that cell, and choose Edit>Copy
Select the remaining cells with Data Validation
(drag to select a group of contiguous cells, or
hold the Ctrl key and click on noncontiguous cells)
Choose Edit>Paste Special
Select Comment, click OK

I was able to work around this by creating a picture file of the dow
arrow with the exact size and shape. I placed it where the down arro
appears when the cell is selected. when the cell is selected the dow
arrow goes over the picture of the down arrow and its now activ
(because its a real down arrow now).

Right click on the picture and go to Format Picture. On the Propertie
tab set the picture to move when you move Cells. If your spreadshee
is all set now, you may not have to do this.

You will have to make sure the picture of the down arrow in under th
real down arrow. On the drawing tool bar, Draw->Order->Send to back
This will prevent you from selecting the picture instead of the dow
arrow button for the cell.

Well, like I said, its a work around that will display a button whe
the cell isn't active.

(used Snag it to get the picture, but I guess most any screen captur
program would work... just crop out what you don't need.)
