Should numbers or text link forms and subforms?

In general is it better to use numbers or text when
creating a simple form and subform.

I am using a form and subform to group together
like records for adjustments. I have not decided
whether to use text or numbers in the link field,
and would appreciate any input.

TIA

Perhaps other opinions will vary, but I would think it does not matter
what flavor of data you link, as long as the fields are key fields.

One theory is that if you do not calculate with it - then it is not a number.

i.e. a zipcode is never added or subtracted or calculated - therefore it is
not a number it is text.

however one should note that normal sorting of text can look funky with
"number" characters....
