Should I set new drive as active?

I've added a 160GB SATA drive to my 80GB drive system and will use
Partition Magic to partition it. If I plan eventually to move
everything from the current drive to the SATA, should I set the SATA
partition as active now, or wait until I'm ready for the move?

Hello Jim

With partition magic it doesn't really matter either way, you can always
change it later. I would make it active.... Or you could just flip a coin.

Are you going to 'move' your system files to the new drive?

If this is what you want to do, Partition Magic isn't the right tool for
this purpose.

You'll need to clone the drive and then run a repair install" try Norton
Ghost.

Thanks, Michael. That makes sense.

In other words, I shouldn't use PM to make the new drive an active
primary partition, and then simply copy all files from the old drive to new?

Hello Jim,

If you want to turn your new drive into your only drive you unfortunately
cant just "copy" the files over like you would normally, you would have to
use PartMagic's function. I personally would (unless the OS on your 80gb
hard drive is new) install XP on the new 160gb drive, and copy everything of
importance over to your newly formatted drive, and use the 80 for storage
and such things. But of course that's totally not necessary if you don't
want to, that's just my opinion.
