Should I change CPU?

I have AMD Atahlon XP 2200+ (1800Mhz), 1GB RAM, 160GB HD w/ 8MB cache.

If I change to AMD Atahlon 3000+ (333 Mhz FSB) Barton, will be a big
difference in speed?

I want later to edit video.

What motherboard and RAM do you have?

Significant, yes, but "big" is relative. Most people would
probably feel that a big enough difference would only be
seen by going with more modern P4 or A64.

In applications like PCB auto-routing, I find that actual working
speed is almost directly proportional to CPU speed. If video editing
(esp rendering) is anything like this, I'd say you should get a
meaningful speed gain. I stand ready to be corrected by those who have
more experience in this field of apps.

XP2200 is 1.8GHz.
XP3000 (Barton) is ~ 2.2GHz

Factor in the larger L2 cache, "often" worth another 200MHz
or so, and the FSB & Memory increase, and a ballpark would
be that the upgrade increases performance 25-45%, towards
the lower end for the video editing. Far greater
performance benefit than that would be seen with a P4 for
*many* video editing tasks.

If the XP2200 is sold to recoup some of the upgrade cost it
seems more worthwhile, or if there is reuse potential for
it, but otherwise, upgrading for only expected benefit of
30% on video editing isn't a lot. I'd try overclocking the
XP2200 and put the $$ towards an A64.
