shortkeys won't work

For some reason some of the standard short keys in Word 2003 don't work...
like Alt/F8 to bring up the macro screen.

What might cause this?

Running Win XP Pro on a relatively new Dell.

Possibly something either remapped the keys or removed the definition.
Tools->Customize->Click the Keyboard button. Click Reset All... (if it's
enabled). If not, look for the command you're having trouble with and see if
the shortcut is still mapped to what you expected.

Renee... I did as you suggest below.

The "Reset All" button is not live.

So I checked two commands that don't work - Alt F8 to open a macro window,
and Shift F3 to change case... both are correctly listed as the shortcut for
these commands.

But they still don't work. Something else is blocking their functionality.

btw... many other standared keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl A, Ctrl C, and Ctrl
V all work properly.

So I'm still puzzeled.

Do you have a keyboard with dual functionality on the F keys? Is yours
toggled to the required use?

Bingo...

Thanks Graham.

didn't realize my keyboard does this "trick"... 'tis almost as annoying as
the dreaded Caps Lock and Insert keys
