Shortcuts to mapped drives/files change spontaneously to C: drive

I'm not sure where to post this so we'll try here.

I have two workstations that are having issues with shortcuts to mapped
drives/files changing over time. At first I thought it was a user
accidentally changing it but this has happened many times on both
workstations. No users believe they have changed anything.

Any ideas why a shortcut to a mapped drive/file would revert to the local
hard disk without user involvement?

I and a couple of neighbors are having this same problem. I hope someone
responds with the cause/solution.
