Shortcuts not working

I recently acquired a dell pc running XP pro SP2 and whwn im on a web page
that i want to save a shortcut to on the desktop i go to file > send >
shortcut to desktop and the shortcut shows up on the desktop but when i click
on it i get the error message "windows cannot find www.microsoft.com make
sure you typed the name correctly then try again. to search for a fileclick
the start button then click search."
Also ablank web page comes up and if you click on internet options from that
blank page nothing happens.

You probably did not send the right link to the desktop.
Open the link properties and make sure that in the target it is: "C:\Program
Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" www.microsoft.com (include the
quotation mark too.
