Shortcut prompts for Password but MDB file doesn't

I created a exe file that joins the mdw file with the mdb. The exe file
prompts for a password as I wanted but when I open the mdb file I get right
in. Any ideas on where I went wrong?

What do you mean by 'create a exe' - you can't do that with Access.

Are you saying you can open the mdb after starting Access (and loggin in). Or are you saying a double click on the mdb file in Windows Explorer opens the mdb with no login required?

If the former, that makes sense. The mdw is in place for the session of Access. So you'll be asked for a login when you open Access; you can then open any number of mdb files (secured with that mdw) during that session.

If you the latter, then you missed a step in securing the mdb.

When I created the shortcut that accociates the workgroup I created for that
database

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.EXE" /wrkgrp
"I:\SSD\Service\FIR Database\Security.mdw" "I:\SSD\Service\FIR Database\FSR
Database.mdb"

it created a file with a exe extenstion? Needless to say I really screwed
things up by trying to teach myself security, then I found your instructions.
The problem was when I tried to assign the default system.mdw file as the
workgroup and start over it tells me I don't have certain permissions and I
can't even import some of my forms into a fresh database. I then reverted
back to one of the security mdw files that worked and proceeded to create a
shortcut so I can only assoicated the mdw with my database and not future
ones I create. I've been reading for hours and see you respond to just about
everyones concerns so I'm so happy you got my question! Can you help or am I
totally messed up?
