Hello,

This is a strange one, but maybe someone has encourntered it. There is an
Access app on a client's network drive which won't load from a shortcut on
his machine only. Other Access apps will load however, so I had to put a
copy of the app on his desktop. I want to run it from a shortcut. Does
anyone have an idea of what the problem might be?

Thanks for any help and God Bless,

Mark A. Sam

Can the user open the database by navigating to the folder in which it is
stored and double clicking on its icon?

Bruce,

No it doesn't open from the folder. The user had Admin rights on the
network. Does this tell you something?

God Bless,

Mark

Since Access needs to create a temporary file, the person opening an Access
file needs full read/write permissions to the folder in which the Access
file is located. You could try copying the database to the user's local
hard drive or to a public area on the network in order to verify that the
user can open the database, but be sure to delete the temporary copy as soon
as you are done testing.

Bruce,

Permissions aren't the problem. The user has Admin rights on the network
and I can open the app in Access on the network drive. This is a problem
that just came up. It happened once before, and I discovered that the
shortcut was pointing to some bizarre location on his hard drive. When I
recreated the shortcut it was fine. This time however, the shortcut is
pointing correctly. Thanks for your input.

God Bless,

Mark

The fact that you can open the app means ony that *you* have permissions to
the folder. It says nothing about other users. I have known permissions to
be changed by mistake. The two tests that will diagnose the issue are
whether the user can open the app in other locations, and whether the user
can write to the folder (for instance, copy a file to the folder).

Bruce,

You misunderstood. I didn't mean that I was logged on as myself, but the
user. I did try a couple of other machines, one acted the same, and other
gave a message...

Microsoft Access cannot open this file.
This file is located outside your instranet or an un untrusted site.
Microsoft Access will not open the file doe to a potential Secturity Hazard.
To open this file, copy it to your machine, or and accessible network
location.

This problem only occurs with this particular user, who is an admin on the
network. I'll put it past the network guy. I think it is a network issue,
but not a permission problem.

Thank you Bruce and God Bless,

Mark

Yes, I misunderstood. Approaching it as a network issue sounds like a good
course. Best of luck.
