Shortcut *.lnk

I have a problem with shortcuts *.lnk files.
In order to view a *.lnk file I changed the file property
for LNK files to TEXTPAD.
This was not the smartest thing to do, and I tried to
revers it, but that did not work.
Whenever I try to click on a shortcut (*.lnk file) I get
the prompt to select which program to run the filetype
from. I have removed the LNK filetype from filetypes.

Can anyone help to figure out how to get my shortcuts to
work without reinstalling windows?
