Shortcut Key Problem

I have tried to use the shortcut key convenience in 2007 word, but the
functionality just isn't there - for example, when I press CTRL+C, nothing
happens. Is there an option I need to set to enable keyboard shortcuts?
 
Problem solved. I was expecting some sort of visual or sound acknowledgement
that the data had copied - when I tried it again, it worked, but I couldn't
see any activity until I pasted.
