Shortcut has a word for a target rather than a path

On the desktop or in Start/Programs/QuickTime/ there are shortcuts.

When I look at the properties of the short cuts for PictureViewer or
QuickTime Player the Target textbox contains simply the term QuickTime.

I expected to find a file path there.

Is there a mapping between such terms and a path someplace in the registry?

If not, can you tell me what is going on there?

In a Command Prompt I typed Path and the listing did not include QuickTime.
But it did include at least one entry that relates to something I removed
long ago (ZoneAlarm\MailFrontier). How can I remove that?

Thanks in advance

I can answer the second part of your question...

.... to remove [or add] stuff to your path:
On your Desktop, right click "My Computer" [if you have renamed this, or don't have it on your desktop, there's another way... go to Control Panel >> System].
A Window will open, where you can select the "Advanced" tab.
On the Advanced Tab, click the button "Environment Variables".
You will note two areas... one that says "User variables for [your user_name]", and on the bottom, "System Variables".
The main place for the path variable is in System Variables, but sometimes programs create a second variable that will be in the "User Variables" section.

But essentially, go to the System Variables, scroll to find the variable
Path, click "Edit", and the first thing I would do is copy it onto a text
file and save it [for a backup].

You can then edit the variable. My preference is to do it in notepad, where
you can remove the unwanted path, and then copy and paste it back to the Path
"Variable Value" field, then click OK until you are out of the "System
Properties" window.

The path name may not necessarily contain the name QuickTime, it could
be in a folder called "Program Files\Apple..." or a copy of the file may
be in another folder in your path. If you cannot find a dedicated path
for the file do a search for "Quicktime.exe" on your drive, you will
most likely find a copy of the file in another folder that is in your
path, like the System32 folder for example.

Right-click My Computer | Properties | Advanced tab | Environment
Variables...

I know the other guy's job always seems easy, but why didn't ms do what that
tool does and enable Find Target?

Thanks that helped a lot
