Shortcut files duplicating themselves

This is not particularly an XP problem, so if I should post elsewhere,
please direct me. I was helping a friend with his computer today (he has
vision problems) and another (well-meaning) friend had managed to delete
some things from his desktop that should not have been deleted. My friend
had a desktop folder in which he had a lot of .pps files to make them
convenient. I found them still in the Recycle Bin, and not knowing how else
to get them back on desktop, I did Copy, and Pasted them on to the desktop
(where they had the name Shortcut(2), etc.) , and from there dragged them
into a folder. But now the problem is, that they reappear individually
every time he reboots; they seem to reproduce like rabbits!

To restore from the Recycle Bin, right click the file, select Restore,
and the file goes back to where it came from.

I don't know how to stop the rabbits reproducing. You could try the
Great Wall of China (re:- a Telstra Australia Broadband commercial)

Thanks, Barry. I did discover the Restore approach too late for the
rabbits. I used it for some other things later. Gee, going to China is a
bit far! <S> (Haven't seen the commercial.) Hopefully maybe someone else
can solve the rabbits problem for me.

The commercial goes like this.

10 year old says to dad, "Dad, why did they build the Great Wall of
China"
Dad, who is not too smart, thinks for a short while, and answers,
"That was during the time of Emporer Nasi Goreng, and it was to keep
the rabbits out. There was too many rabbits, in China".
The 10 year old then gets up in front of his class to give a talk on
the Great Wall of China.

The tag of the commercial, is "Give your kids the right answers, get
BigPond Broadband".
The commercial was such a success here in Australia, that it's become
part of the vernacular, about there being "Too many rabbits, in China"
when you don't know the answer.
I don't know how to fix your replicating shortcuts, so.....

Cheers,
