Short Date?

Hi Guys,

Using Access 2000. I have used the Short Date mask before and only have to
type in 5/1/05. In my new database on the Date Control I chose Short date
for my Date field and I have to type it in 05/01/2005 or I get an error.
How can I change it to accept 5105 and recognize this as ok. I looked
around on the web and the MVP sites but all I could come up with is that it
uses the date format from the computer but I am using the same computer.

Here is my mask right now.
99/99/0000;0;_

Thanks,
Linda

Try:

99/99/9999;0;_

OTOH, I tend not to use InputMask for date values and let Access interprets
the data entered by the user.

Check your settings in Tools->Options->General Tab - Use four-digit year
formatting. If either This Database or All Databases is checked, it will
require a four digit year.

What about the people that enter the date 1-2-05 instead of using / then the
reports look bad.

You can apply a consistent *Format* without imposing an InputMask.

Access will inteprets the entry correctly as Jan 02 2005 or Feb 01 2005
(depending on the Regional Settings) which sotre internally like a Double
number independently of the Date/Time format.

In the Report, you simply use a suitable format on the TextBox to get
consistent output on the Report.
