Shockwave Files (.swf)

I am using a piece of software that will capture screen shots and output the
finished product to a .swf file.

Here is my problem:
I double click on the file and I get a windows error telling me this file is
not a valid Win32 application.

I have downloaded the latest Flash Player and Shockwave player and still
nothing.

The interesting thing is that when I associate that file type with IE, it
works well.

Hi
There is nothing wrong it is expected behaviour. You would also find that
had you not associated the swf extension with IE and instead had dragged the
swf file into an Internet Explorer window that the movie would also have
played. This is because you have the Flash plugin installed in IE. The
plugin doesn't count as an application though, it is considered part of IE
or more precisely a browser helper object (BHP). To get your swf file to
open in the way you want a dedicated program that handles the swf format is
needed. If you had Flash-the authoring application then you would have a
Flash Player that would open the swf. What is very confusing is that
Adobe/Macromedia insist on calling the free plugin by the same name as the
stand alone Flash Player-sometimes called a projector- but the former is a
free download whereas the latter, on Windows, is only available with the
Flash application itself. Mac and Linux users can download the projector
version. This of course doesn't help you very much, but I wonder if the
software you are using allows you to save or Publish to HTML-if it does
then you could view your swf movie by double clicking an html file which
would be better.
