Sheet protection/cell editing

How can data be edited in the unlocked cells of a
protected worksheet WITHOUT having to retype the entire
entry?

When the Protecting Worksheet feature is activated,
specific unlocked cells can be accessed by the user.
However, once data is entered into those cells, it cannot
be edited. When the user clicks back into a cell to edit
existing data, the only option seems to be to completely
retype it (data does not appear in the Formula Bar, nor
can you access the cell directly by double-clicking). As
a matter of fact, if the user double-clicks the cell in
an attempt to enter the cell for editing, ALL data is
automatically eliminated from the cell.

The Option/Edit Tab has been set to allow for editing
data in the cells.

go to the unlocked cells and then format, cells, protection and uncheck
hidden, you will then be able to edit the cells
