SHDOCVW.DLL Notice

T

TeeJay

Whenever I log on (I am one of 4 users) to my XP system,
AntiSpyware advises me the it has blocked the Internet
Explorer Bar Microsoft Shell Doc Object and Control
Library from being installed. It then gives me the path
of C:\windows\system32\shdocvw.dll. From what I can on
the web, this is a required dll file and is not hazardous
to the system. So what is it telling me about a piece of
code that's supposed to be there? Is something running
that is trying to change this file (which is why
AntiSpyware is blocking it)?

There are worms and viruses that can exploit this process, recommendation:
1) Submit suspected spyware report in the tools menu of Antispyware
2) Reboot in safe mode and run a deep scan
3) Run antivirus (with current definitions) while you are in safe mode.

You may also want to check what Microsoft says about its Security Update.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/Bulletin/MS05-020.mspx

If you dig down through "Security Update Information", they finally tell you
what files on which they they did things - with time stamp and size. I found
this thru an explanation by PA_Bear (Thanks PA_Bear!) - otherwise I was just
as concerned about this as you.

Table
"The English version of this security update has the file attributes that
are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are
listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file
information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between
UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in
Control Panel.

Note When you install this security update on Windows XP Service Pack 2, the
installer checks to see if one or more of the files that are being updated
on your system have previously been updated by a Microsoft hotfix.

If you have previously installed a hotfix to update an affected file, the
installer copies the SP2QFE files to your system.

If you have not previously installed a hotfix to update an affected file,
the installer copies the SP2GDR files to your system.

For more information about this behavior, see Microsoft Knowledge Base
Article 824994.

mine is:

Shdocvw.dll
1.41 MB (1,484,288 bytes)
6.00.2900.2668 xpsp_sp2_gdr

And I receive the same warning to ask me about it then I
tried to delete a voice from the blocked programs in MSAS
and now MSAS says it has been blocked without ask me. MSAS
behaviour is very crazy!

1) Submit suspected spyware report in the tools menu of
Antispyware

submit function still doesn't work on the latest build 614.
How can Microsoft improve the program if the submit
function has never worked? :)
