Sharing Workbooks

Tim Hagedorn

I have a pretty elaborate workbook set up that is keeping
track of my inventory, sales, production, etc....

My problem is that I share this workbook w/ 2 of my co-
workers. If one person is modifying the workbook, myself
and the other person can't be. We are only allowed
to "Read Only." I was going to divide out the different
sheets into workbooks that have the information that each
person uses, but b/c the sheets are linked together, I
still have the issue of sharing information and updating.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can edit the
same workbook, or have different workbooks that
automatically update once a change in made in one of the
linked workbooks? Or should I just give up???

Thank you.
Tim

I could be way off here, but I would do a little tinkering with workbook
protection. Bear with me for a minute.
Click tools, protection, then click "protect and share workbook". I think it
will allow several users to have a sheet open at the same time, but will
give the owner/creator of the file the right to accept or not accept the
changes made by another user. It just might also get you past your read only
problem. I would suggest trying it with a useless workbook first before
using it on your good one.
Like I said, I can't be sure if it will work but it is worth a try if you
haven't tried it already.

You can do this by selecting TOOLS, SHARE WORKBOOK, and
tick box where it asks if it can be edited by more than
one user.
