Sharing permissions problem

I have an XP delima. I have Xp pro workstation that i set up as a server to
share files and folders. I grant specific users both the shared permissions
and advanced permissions. they can see the folder and access the folders. but
they cannot modify them. It says "access denied". I verified that the
permissions were not propogating fromt he parent folder also. Everything that
i see says it should work, but it doesnt. iThe only thing i got to work was
giving the user full rights to the above folder..which is for all to share
but not to modify. anyone have any suggestions, i have done this on many 2000
pc;'s with no problem. What am i missing with XP as the server? please help...

Since you don't have a domain set up, did you create user accounts and
passwords on the file server that match the ones on the workstations?
If not, you need to do this (with Simple Sharing on all XP Pro boxen
turned off).

By "shared permissions" and "advanced permissions", I'm guessing you refer to
"Sharing - Permissions" and "Security"?

Are you getting this result from new shares as well as ones created before you
started seeing this problem? What server did you have when you didn't have the
problem? Does this happen when you try to create files, to edit existing files,
or both?

I am getting this from all shares..and yes i have the user names and
passwords the same on all pc's. I can not add or edit anything inthe folders,
eventhought he users have Fullcontrol to their specific folders.

What are the complete paths to some of the problem shares? Are there any shares
that work properly?

I'm still not clear what you had when you didn't have this problem. A different
server? Different clients? Please provide details.
