Sharing folders not working

I have two computers running Windows XP Pro and connected
on the same workgroup. Both have static IP addresses
assigned by the Linksys router on the same subnet mask.
Both computers can PING each other by name and IP address.

I'm trying to share a folder on one of the computers and
access it from the other, but I'm not able to do so. I
turned off simple file sharing and shared a folder. When
I try to browse this computer, it either asks me for a
login name & password or it tells me that I don't have
permission.

Can someone please give me the safe steps to share a
folder and browse the contents from the other computer?

Thank you.

On the computer whose folder your trying to share, add a user account that
has the exact same name and password as the user on the other computer. Then
when you try to connect to the share it uses your login info and lets you
in. Or try enabling the guest account and log into the share as guest.
