Sharing folder under Windows XP

I

Ilan

I have Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
I have a home network using a router with 2 wireless
computers (both running XP) and a wired computer running
Windows 98.
One of the XP computers: I cannot create a shared folder.
Every time I try to highlight: Share this folder on the
network and click Apply, I get the following message:
An error occurred while trying to share backup (name of
folder). The server service is not started. The shared
resource was not created at this time.

Note that the Windows Firewall is configured to allow
this folder to be shared with other computers on the
network.

Ilan,

Are you running File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks (Local Area
Connection - Properties), on that computer? Is the Server service (Control
Panel - Administrative Tools - Services) running?

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Thanks for your help. Problem fixed.

Is the Server service (Control
Panel - Administrative Tools - Services) running? It
was not. I set it now to start automatically.

Thanks again.
I was going nuts
