Sharing Dialup connection

Peter

I can dialup to my XP Pro at work (direct modem
connection), which is running an MSDE server. From the
home computer (XP Pro) have surprisingly fast working
access to the MSDE server. I would like to access work
from my laptop, which is networked to my home computer -
is this possible??

Peter,

Sure. You enable ICF / ICS on the XP Pro home computer, configure the
network connection on the home computer as 192.168.0.1, setup the
laptop to use DHCP, and the laptop gets its network configuration from
the DHCP server in ICS. You can run ICS on any computer running XP
Pro which has 2 connections: 1 - an unshared (dialup) internet
connection, and 2 - a network connection to one or more client
computers.

Substitute the MSDE computer for the internet, which your RAS (dialup)
client on your home computer does, and you'll be connected.

Cheers,

Chuck

Chuck - thanks for the reply. I agree, the setup you
describe should work, but doesn't. At work, the MSDE server
is on a 'workgroup' network. It has a fixed address of
192.168.0.2, there's a linux internet gateway on the
network which is a DHCP server to the other work
computers. I'm dialing direct via modem into the MSDE
(192.168.0.2) I wonder if because the home computer is
setting itself as 192.168.0.1, it clashes with the work
gateway computer, which is also 192.168.0.1??
