sharing database on network

I have not run into this problem before and need some assistance. I created
a simple database on a shared network drive. Those I am working with can
open the database, but when the select the queries or reports to view/run -
it gives them an error message. The error message reads: 'Y:\filename' is
not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and you
are connected to the server on which the file resides.

Since the file name referenced in the error is that of the linked table -
which is an excel file on the same shared network drive. I think that is
where my issue resides - but could be wrong. I can try to import the excel
information instead of link - but linking makes it easier to maintain data
currency.

Any suggestions?

The error message is saying that Access cannot find the "Y:\" sharename on
the others' PCs. Since each PC can define its own sharenames, this is a
not-uncommon problem.

The solution is to use UNC naming for the connection to the data. You can
accomplish this by re-linking, but doing so via the Entire Network (and
drilling down), rather than linking to YOUR "Y:\" share.
