shared folder takes too long to open

Im sharing some folders in xp network, and usually I put a shortcut in
desktop
but takes too long to open a folder ... after some 40 seconds folder opens
(it happens with several folders on different machines, tried deleting
shortcuts
and creating new ones but nothing changed)

Going thru my network places does it faster.

Would try:

Stop the "WebClient" Service. (It's for WebDAV and a known reason for
your symptom)

Better ?

If yes, deactivate it permanently
