Shared Border / Publish to Hard Drive Problem

I had an older site built on FP 2000 that has been pretty dormant for
about 5 years - but now it's time to get it up and running with current
info again - of course on a new computer. I have upgraded to FP 2003
and admit that I'm not totally up to speed on it, but I wanted to at
least get the site published back to my computer so I could start
fooling around with it.

So after going through having to have my server re-install the FP
extentions to even get the darn thing to publish back to my hard drive
- I'm still having issues.

The original site was built with "shared borders" - but when I bring up
the index page - they are not showing. I checked the border file and
they are indeed there, so I figured I would just have to format the
page to bring it in - but the "shared borders" link is grayed out.

I have a few 4 inch manuals for FP 2003 - but I've always gotten my
best answers from you guys so I thought I'd start here this time hoping
for a quick and easy shortcut while I learn this new version.

Thanks!

Open the remote site in FrontPage.
Recalculate hyperlinks and then publish to your computer.

Thanks Steve - I did as you said and they still aren't showing and I
still can't access the "shared border" link. Any other thoughts?

Oops - now I went to the site residing on the server that I was
downloading from and the borders aren't there either. Luckily I had
created a second file so the original should still be there before I
did the "recalulate hyperlinks" but don't know if simply republishing
back to the server from that original download will work.

Anyway - I am going to be removing quite a bit of the content of the
original site - the main thing I wanted was the shared borders - so
anyone have another suggestion how to retrieve them?

Turn on shared borders in Tools Page Options Authoring (Author time web components)

Tools->Page Options - Authoring Tab
Check the boxes "Author time Web components", "Navigation" and
"Shared Borders"

In your redesign, you may wish to look at Dynamic Web Templates
instead of Shared Borders.

I did that and when I went to click the boxes to turn the top and left
one on - it over-wrote what I had there so I was left with blanks.
Fortunately I had made a copy of the entire file.

I can copy and paste it back in - but it seems strange that I can't get
it to recognize it.

Like I said - I've been away from doing this for quite a while and I'm
having to relearn a lot of it. I know I will be coming back to the well
in the next few months to ask you guys for help - thanks in advance!
