Share Programs with Peer to Peer Networking?

Can programs be shared using Windows XP Peer to Peer Networking, or just data files? In
other words, can I run a program not installed on my PC, but that is installed on a PC
that I'm networked to Peer to Peer?

Most programs when installed require entries in the registry of the computer
they reside on to operate. Those registry entries would not be present on
the second computer if you tried to run the executable from another
computer. Simple programs that do not require installation will often run
over a peer to peer network.

Actually, it depends on the program. If you have a server/client type of
program then, yes. For instance, in my kid's school library, we have
three computers on a separate lan. The library server software runs on
one box and the researcher client software runs on the other two boxen.
You can't run the researcher program without the main program running
on the server.

Some programs can successfully run via Terminal Services. But the
program has to be designed to do this. You can't just navigate to say,
winword.exe on Computer A via Network Places and have Word run on
Computer B.

If I understand what you are saying: Each of the three systems would have to have its own
Microsoft Excel (MS Office) installed, in order for any of the three systems to be able to
open an .xls file that resides on any of the three systems.
