Share printer cannot be setup between W3k and XP home

I have a desktop with XP home edition and a wireless laptop that is W2K. The desktop has a printer attached that I am attempting to share the printer so I can print the from the wireless notebook too. I can see the desktop from Microsoft Windows network on the laptop but I cannot get any further than this point. The wireless cannot ping the desktop, but the desktop can ping the laptop. I was even able to map to the root of C from the desktop to the laptop. Any ideas why the laptop cannot access the desktop through my network? The workgroup is set up the same on both PCs.
