I just installed a Linksys Etherfast Cable/DSL 4 port
firewall router. I have a Windows 2000 Server running
service pack 4 and two Windows 2000 Pro PCs hooked to the
router. I have 3 folders shared out from the server, but
they can no longer be accessed from the PCs. I have turned
off DHCP on the server... Is there any one out there with
suggestions where to go next ??? If you need more
information, contact me at (e-mail address removed). I
appreciate any help you can give...

You will need to tune your firewall so that it allows
file & folder sharing. The subject is most likely covered
in detail in the Linksys FAQs.

Open a Command Prompt on all platforms.

In the Command Prompt type the following;

IPCONFIG /ALL

are you getting IP addresses of 192.168.1.xx or are you getting something like
169.254.xx.yy ?

Also...

If you post to UseNet with your TRUE, not a munged, email address then you have now invited
the Swen worm to visit you.

The Swen is news spelled backwards. The reason it is called this is because the Swen worm
harvests email addresses from UseNet News Groups. It has an engine that allows it to post
itself to UseNet News Groups and well as it has its own email engine. From the list of
email addresses that it has harvested, it will then email itself to those addresses.

Lastly, Verizon has News Groups specifically for topics such at this. The hierarchy is;
0.verizon

Actually, if the Win32 platforms are on the LAN side of the Router, the FireWall on the
Router is a moot point since the FireWall is for the LAN/WAN interface.

If you execute (in a Command Prompt) the following...

NBTSTAT -A 192.168.1.11

Do you get something like the below ?...

Than you don't have NetBIOS opver IP enabled. Without you won't be able to access those

Can you at least PING the others.
