share files to auenticated users

I would like to use one of the win2000 accounts to store backup
files over a lan so that I can access the account and copy files
to it. I don't want to use the shared folder because then everyone
can see the files. So far, I can access the account over lan,
enter user name and password and see the shared printers. But I
cannot copy files.

What do I need to do to be able to copy files? Thanks.

I'm not sure what you're trying to do. You can't copy files to an
"account". An account is an entity that refers to a user or computer
object. It can be assigned permissions and rights, but can't function as
any kind of data repository.

You can use an account to assign permissions to a share. If you don't
want others to see it, make the last character in the share name a "$"
(i.e. "myshare$"). That will make it hidden. If you then assign
permissions to the share (or better, assign permissions to the folder at
the filesystem level) that only allow you to read or write to it, then
no one else could access any information even if they could see it.
