Go to the Control Panel, click on System, then click on Advanced and then
under Performance click on Settings. You will find what you want on the
Visual Effects tab.

Thanks for the quick reply Ron Im sure this would have cured the problem in
normal circumstances but I have since found out it was caused by "window
washer version 6 which has bugs"
