Shading or Screening a List

I made up a horizontal list of my cost and profits. I shaded every other line
to make it easier to read and edit. However, some times I have to add or
delete a line or lines. How do I keep the shaded areas and the white areas
where they are but move the type? Do I have to lock the list before I enter
the type? Or What? I hope I made this clear.

use conditional formating.
high the range you want banded(colored lines)
on the menu bar...
format>conditional formating.....
formula is........=MOD(ROW()-1,1*2)+1<=1
choose format.
click ok
done
