Greetings,
I am attempting to run the SFC in Vista. I want to repair the files. The
computer tells me I must be the administrater and be running a console
session. Since I purchased the computer and the vista cd I am the
administrater but I do not understand the "console Session" at all. Will
someone please help?
Thank anyone in advace. I realize it does take a persons time and hard
gotten knowledge to help me with this.

Right-click cmd.exe and click "Run as administrator".

Thank you for trying but I do not get that option. I click on command prompt
and type in SFC/scannow and receive the "must be administator and running a
console session." I have set up a second accout so I can go to the
administrator account but no luck so far. Evidently I am missing something,
but cannot figure out what.
I get a basic menu when I clickin the left hand top corner of the command
prompt window. I cannot even get it to "boot from CD option" Maybe going back
to XP is the answer. What is your opinion? You are obviously well familiar
with this operating system.
Once again, I do appreciate your efforts on my behalf.

RAW,

You need to right click on CMD and click "Run as Administrator". See
this tutorial for more help on this.

Shawn,
Your advice did the trick. The solution was fairly easy but you may not have
heard of it yet. When setting up my accounts I set up two, one for
administrator and one for anyone. I did not password protect the
administrator account because my important programs are password protected
with encyption. Once I password protected the administrator account I was
able to run chkdsk ans SFC/scannow. I am still having trouble getting it to
boot from the DVD though. Some corrupted files were found but unable to fix.
I change my boot setting to boot from the DVD but the computer seems to
ignore my wishes. (Don't they all.")
Anyway, thank you so much. I have been fooling with the sfc problem for
months.
