How in the world do you get to the system file checker in
2000?A screen flashes up briefly and goes away..

Start/Run type "cmd". In the resulting command window you can run SFC.

Thanks........I take it you cannot get sfc outside

The issue is that sfc.exe needs some parameters (like /scannow). If you
just launch it from the Start | Run menu, it flashes up the help text to
tell you the syntax and then goes.

By launching from the command prompt, you get to see the help text. You
should whack "sfc /scannow" into the Start | Run box and it would work.

By the way, it's the command prompt, not "DOS".
