SFC SCANNOW

....or more correctly as I didn't want to type it that way in the subject
line - sfc /scannow - is the problem.

Recently had some problems that were not major but annoying. So, I decided
to do an SFC /scannow and off it went. I have Win XP Home on the CD and SP1
installed, right? Well, it gets a little way in to the process and then
tells me to insert the Win XP PROFESSIONAL disk instead of home.

Anyone know how to fix that so it asks for the right disk, please? It wont
continue the way it is. Thanks in advance.

Unless you have a updated disk I would do the below.

If you look in the registry at HKEY LOCAL
MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
you will see two pertinent entries: 1) Source Path which
should point to the location you used for your last
installation of XP(unless you have changed this for some
reason and sometimes this entry is not present); 2)
ServicePackSourcePath which should point to %SystemDrive%
\Windows\ServicePackFiles (unless again you have modified
the entry). If you have any problems running SFC, I would
look to these locations to see if the entries are
correct. I would next look in the %SystemDrive%
\Windows\ServicePackFiles to see if there is an I386
folder there which is where SFC will be looking for
updated files.

Will,

Thanks for that. It was option 2. Somehow, the entire i386 had been removed
from my HD without me realising it. All back now and all working well.

Thanks again!
