I have a system that was setup from CD (I believe) with XP Pro w/ SP1
slipstreamed. In troubleshooting a problem on this system, I was told
to run sfc /scannow. It's now requesting the Win XP SP1 cd. I've
tried every CD I have (winxp gold, a cd with XP1 extracted to it, Win
XP w/SP1) to no avail. How do I determine the name of the cd it's
looking for so I can recreate it?

Insert your Windows XP SP1 CD in the CD drive before
running the SFC /SCANNOW command.

I've done that. This is a XP SP1 CD I created (slipstreamed in the SP1
and burned a bootable CD from nero). I took the default for the CD
volume label in nero, could this be the issue?

The Volume Label would not be the issue.

The "SourcePath" may be set incorrectly in registry.

The SourcePath value is located in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

Example:

If the I386 directory is at C:\I386, the SourcePath value would be C:\.

Applies to Windows XP also.

I've tried the following:

Copied over the i386 from the cd I created (XP with SP1 slipstreamed)
and changed the registry setting you specified to c:\. That didn't
work.

I tried changing it back to d:\ (my CD drive), no work.

Anything else I can try?

Dan,

You could do what is asks and insert an SP1 CD? Or look in your PC for the
folder with the Service pack files and when asked for browse to that folder.

That's part of my question. Is it asking for a Windows XP CD (w/ SP1),
or a SP1 only cd? It never gives me the option to browse. I insert a
cd, it tells it's wrong, and that's all I can do.

Dan,

Tell us what version of Windows you are running.

Open your registry and find the key below.

HKEY_CYRRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called
'PaintDesktopVersion' set the value to equal '1' to display the version.

Reboot Windows and you will see your version on your desktop.
What is it?

Hello Wayne,
What is the exact message that it is asking?
The name it's looking for is dependant on how the system was installed.
Look at the bottom of the layout.inf file for the name, the last twenty
lines or so.
or just create a flat of the i386 on the harddrive and change the registry
setting to point that instead of the cd drive.
