Several workstations delay @ applying personal settings

I work at a company that has about 15 computers with Win XP pro and a Server
running 2003. About 4 of the computers have an extremely long delay at
applying user settings. At least one of these will have the delay for the
normal user, but, does not have it when I log on as administrator. I have
looked high and low for a resolution to this problem and as yet not had any
luck. All profiles on all machines are local. I have noticed that if I
unplug the network cable prior to log on then there is no delay. Does
anyone have any ideas?? Thanks in advance.

Jeremy,

Have you tried different user names on the problem computers? Have you tried
the problem user names on other, non problem computers? Have you tried clearing
the locally cached profiles from the problem computers, and starting over?

In addition to Chuck's reply -

Check the event logs
Make sure the workstation is fully patched to SP2 and all critical updates
(I don't count IE7 amongst those....)
Download & install the User Profile Hive Cleanup service on all workstations

Hi.

I have had this before, check the DNS settings for the TCP/IP config on the
PC's. Make sure it is set to 'Automatic'.

Lee.
