setup file problems

I have just installed xp home edition on my computer but i cannot run any
setup files. An msdos box just flashes up and then goes away .
Can anyone Help????????!!!!!!!

DOS is an operating system, same as Linux or Windows. What
you probably see is a Command Prompt that flashes briefly.

To see what's going on, do this:
- Click Start / Run / cmd (OK)
(This will open a Command Prompt)
- Run your setup program, e.g. by typing
D:\setup.exe {Enter}
What do you see?
 
it keeps saying that the program is too big to fit in memory no matter what
program i try to run.

If this happens with just one particular installation program
then the program is damaged or flawed.

If it happens with all setup programs then your Windows
installation is damaged and needs to be repaired or replaced.
